After the great reviews that the album won in London , where it was presented for the first time a few months ago , it’s time “Folk this way” to be released in Greece .
The title marks and its content … It is about one of the many “journeys” the creative and restless musician-singer Peny Papakonstantinou has done in her country’s musical roots , as her occupation of the last 10 years with this musical heritage, allows her to move around with great ease and respect .
This time , however, “the way” changes!
Through the orchestrations of Lefteris Pouliou and the coefficients of the album, we meet with “fusion” greek traditional music, connecting electric sound and funk, ska, jazz, rock performings with traditional forms of singing. So, Georgia Loli’s kanun coexists with the drums of Akis Gavalas, the Constantinople lute of Peny with the bass of Apostolos Kaltsas , the kabak of Kostas Papageridis and percussion of Drossos Skylas with the keyboards and saxophone of Lefteris Pouliou .
The cd «Folk this way» consists of 7 favorite traditional songs (“Margoudi”, “Pikrodafni”, “Bournovalios Manes”, “Voskopoula”, “Giatros”, “Seranta Mila”,”Den se thelo pia”) from Epirus and Thrace to Minor Asia and Pontos , and “Min kaneis oneira trela” of Eftychia Papagiannopoulou and Apostolos Kaldaras.
Smyrna orchestra (in which Peny is a member) participates giving us an interesting polyphonic interpretation of “Margoudi”.
The album has been released by the record label Final Touch in distribution of Cobalt.
